Why Breast Enlargement surgery may be right for you?
Patients choose to have Breast Enlargement for many different reasons. The procedure is most suitable for patients with small breasts, asymmetrical breasts or breasts that have lost volume or shape due to weight loss or pregnancy. There is no right or wrong reason to have Breast Enlargement surgery, Breast Uplift or Breast Reduction, but what’s essential for all patients is that you do thorough research and talk to your cosmetic surgeon.
Breast Enlargement surgery is not recommended for women who have not fully developed, as the body shape can change a lot, naturally. To have this procedure at The Harley Medical Group, you must be over 18 and in good general health. Your cosmetic surgeon will have access to your medical records too, so they will be able to advise you on whether the procedure is suitable for you. We thoroughly assess all patients, so please book a free no obligations consultation to find out if you’re a suitable patient.
Types of implants
Silicone gel (soft)
Less likely to wrinkle or ripple than saline The most natural feel out of the three types of implant If they rupture, they’re the most likely to spread into the breast tissue – this can cause lumps (siliconomas) and implant removal will be needed Pre-filled with gel
Silicone gel (firm)
Less likely to wrinkle or ripple than saline Less likely to result in hardening or rotation of the implant than soft silicone A more natural feel than saline but not as natural as soft silicone Pre-filled with gel
Saline
May be less likely to harden than silicone Feel less natural than both types of silicone More prone to wrinkling than silicone More likely to rupture or deflate than silicone but if they do rupture, they’ll safely pass out of the body Inserted while still empty and then filled with sterile salt water once they’re positioned correctly
Size
Breast implants are measured by volume and not bra size. Your consultant can help you choose the most suitable implant size for you based on:
The size of your rib cage Your existing volume of breast tissue
Shape and projection
Teardrop shape – you can choose the height and width separately, so there’s more control over the shape Round shape – there’s a bigger volume at the top Projection – you can choose how much the implant sticks out to give a subtle or a more obvious look
How Breast Enlargement surgery works?
Breast Enhancement surgery is carried out under a general anaesthetic. The operation time will vary from patient to patient and can take between one and two hours depending on the type of breast surgery being carried out. The surgeon will make an incision in the skin about 3 to 5cms long, usually in the crease below the breast but incisions can also be made in the underarm or around the areola (nipple).
The surgeon will then create a pocket for the breast implant to be placed in and this can be between the breast tissue and chest muscle or behind the chest wall muscle. The size and shape of the breast, the looseness of the skin and your own anatomy will determine which position the surgeon feels is the best option for you and this will be explained and discussed at your free Breast Enlargement consultation.
The incision will then be stitched, these may be dissolvable stitches rather than ones which require removing, and the treated area will be dressed. There may be drainage tubes in place which will be removed before you go home.
